Head Massage

This is a unique head massage that has been developed through training with NHS practitioners that effectively works to calm, soothe, relax, destress and reduce tension by gently massaging the small muscles around the head, neck and shoulders that response well to touch and are the closest to the brain which processes sensation.

There are lots of reasons why having a head massage is so beneficial to you. As you relax deeply; the massage will help increase blood flow to head and nervous system which can help with concentration and memory, improve energy levels, help with sleeping patterns as any stress and tension are released away from you.

During the massage oxytocin and endorphins are released by your body which calm and soothe and counteract the stress hormone, cortisol. Along with the release of serotonin and dopamine, your body's natural feel good hormones you will leave the treatment feeling relaxed and with a general sense of wellbeing.

This is a wonderful treatment to have on its own, or why not combine a head massage with a foot and lower leg massage for the ultimate in relaxation.

If you have never had a massage, a head massage is the perfect treatment. You are not required to undress and no massage oils are used on the head. If you choose to combine it with a foot and lower leg massage oils will be used on your feet and lower legs.

Head massage is also a great treatment if you are looking for something different to offer your colleagues at a wellbeing day. Please contact Nicky directly for pricing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect in a Bowen treatment?

At your first treatment, please allow an hour and an half. An in-depth first consultation to discuss your pain points and your general well-being and how your pain affects you on a day-to-day basis will take up to half an hour followed by an hour's Bowen treatment. Please bring with you a list of medications that you are currently taking.

At the start of subsequent treatments a brief consultation will be conducted to see how you are and how you are feeling from your previous treatment.

All treatments are carried out in a private room on a therapy bed, with blankets to help keep you warm and aid relaxation. No oils or lotions are used as they are not necessary. A treatment can be performed over light, loose clothing. Often it is advisable to bring a vest and shorts to change into.

During your treatment pauses of up to 2 minutes are given. These pauses give time to trigger your body's own innate healing capacity to correct imbalances, heal and to relax.

After a Bowen treatment, clients have said they ‘feel extremely relaxed, as though a weight has been lifted’.

What should I wear?

Bowen therapy treatment can be performed over light, loose clothing. You can bring shorts and vests to change into. It is requested that you do not wear jeans as these are too thick to make the Bowen moves to penetrate.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments varies from person to person, but if you have a long-standing injury you will typically require more treatments than someone whose injuries have recently occurred. Most people will start to experience the positive effects of Bowen therapy immediately after their first treatment.

Typically for long-standing injuries and pain, clients will require 3 treatments, one week apart and then have a maintenance treatment every month or so as required to keep on top of their well-being.

It is recommended that you wait a week between treatments as Bowen can initiate a cascade of beneficial changes within your body that can continue to work up to a week after treatment. This means you will continue to heal and feel better throughout that entire time.

It is also advisable to avoid any other hands-on therapies such as massage, chiropractor, physiotherapy so as not to confuse your body with mixed messages.

What to expect after a treatment

Water - make sure you drink plenty of water so that you keep yourself hydrated. Sipping water will help your body absorb it much better and help keep you better hydrated.

Walk - try to move around after a Bowen treatment, just gentle walking every half and hour. You could set your phone to remind you. This is important as Bowen therapy works a lot on the lymphatic system. Your lymphatic system does not have a pump of its own, so moving around just keeps the lymphatic system moving.

Wait - Bowen therapy continues to work up to a week after a treatment so it is advisable to have wait between 5-7 days between treatments and because Bowen therapy is at work throughout your body, it is recommended that you avoid any hands-on treatments such as massage, physiotherapy, chiropractor until your course of Bowen therapy has been completed. This helps your body not to get confuse with mixed messages.
